Two islets located right off the Windward shore.
Na Mokulua, The Mokes for short, literally translates in English to “the two islands”. These two islands located 3/4 mi off of the Windward coast of Oahu in the town of Kailua have been made famous in countless photographs representing the island paradise that is Hawaii. It’s thought that the islands original Hawaiian name has been lost to history and their current individual names, Moku Nui and Moku Iki, translate literally to “big island” and “small island”, respectively.
Though the smaller island is off-limit to visitors, many adventurous people will rent a kayak and paddle to the bigger island. Be careful though, depending on the conditions, the water can be rough and dangerous.
