The Lanikai Pillbox Trail, also known as Kaiwa Ridge Trail, is a hike located in the town of Kailua that ends with a beautiful view of the Windward coast and the 2 twin islands right off the shore called The Mokes. Though beautiful at all times of day, if you gather the energy to go early in the morning you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful sunrise over the ocean horizon. It’s a rather short and easy hike, it takes only about half an hour to get to the second pillbox, though some spots are a little steep so pay attention. It’s one of the most heavily trafficked hikes on the island, so you’ll likely cross paths with other hikers at all times of the day. It should be an easy enough hike for pets and children, however it’s not paved so some of the steeper parts may be dangerous for very young children.
There’s a few parking spots on the side of the road on Kaelepulu Dr. Otherwise you might have to park on the next street over on Aalapapa Dr. Parking can be a little scarce if the trail is busy, which it tends to be.
