Halona Beach Cove / Cockroach Cove / Eternity Beach

Small scenic beach wedged between ocean cliffs

The Beach

Halona Beach Cove, known to locals as Cockroach Cove, is a small sandy beach wedged between the tall ocean cliffs. It’s easy to miss as your driving up the coast if you’re not looking for it. You can use the public parking for the Halona Blowhole Lookout located just northeast of the cove. From there you’ll need to hike down the rocks to the beach below.

When you’ve gotten to the beach you can set your towel down and enjoy watching the waves funnel into the cove, or if you’re feeling more adventurous you can make your way into the water. Watch out though, if the waves are rough they pack a punch, don’t get slammed into the rocks and ruin your beach day. If the tide’s high enough you’ll also see people jumping in to the water from the rocky shelf on South side of the cove.

There’s also a lava tube located on the rocky slope between the beach and the road above. You’ll have to crouch a bit to get to the other side where you’ll be rewarded with weeds, graffiti and more rocks!

If you’re a classic movie buff you may remember this beautiful location from the 1953 motion picture From Here to Eternity where a love scene between Burt Lancester and Deborah Kerr was filmed.

Yearning to explore the Halona Beach Cove surrounding region? Check out the neighboring Halona Blowhole a rock formation and a blowhole at Hālona Point overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Also nearby is the Koko Head Crater, a moderate hike that will lead you to a scenic view of the southern side of Oahu. If you’re looking for something a little more moderate, we recommend taking a trip to the Koko Crater Botanical Garden, where you’ll get to see some of Hawaii’s illustrious forestry planted in a 60-acre radius.

Getting Hungry? In the nearby surrounding area you’ll find a few local-eats like Ono Seafood/ Poke Bowl Patrol (dine in/order to go) where you can grab variant styles of fresh local poke. If you’re up for a short drive to the Hawaii Kai area, you’ll have ample options for dining like the Koa Pancake House which offers delicious breakfast options for a low price.
