Sunset Beach

North Shore beach with beautiful sunsets and surf

The Beach

This North Shore beauty is admired for not only its gorgeous sunsets, but also it’s world class surfing. Just like its neighboring beaches Ehukai and Waimea, Sunset Beach gets extraordinary waves normally reaching anywhere from 15 to 30 feet during the winter months. You’re bound to be blown away when you come to view some of the world’s best surfers riding in the Triple Crown Surfing Competition.

In the off months, Sunset beach can be a wonderful place for snorkeling. As the waters begin to level out in the summer time, you’ll start to see the exposure of the reefs who host a variety of colorful fish and coral. Additionally the beach is quite sandy, and can be enjoyed all year round for those who are looking for a great place to lounge in the sun.

Excited to explore Sunset’s surrounding region? We recommend taking a trip to Waimea Valley where you can hike to Waimea Falls and set your sights on a large botanical garden. There’s also the ʻEhukai Pillbox Hike that leads you to a birds eye view of the North Shore.

Looking for a bite, but forgot your fishing pole? Sunset has a few food trucks nearby like Pupukea Grill for those looking to grab a poke bowl of your choice, and Aji Limo Truck who offer delicious Hawaiian style cuisine. For more choices check out our list of Food Options below.
