The Maili Pillbox Hike, also known as the Pink Pillbox Hike, is a short hike located on the Leeward coast of Oahu. There’s 2 different routes to the top, a shorter more challenging direct route, and a longer easier zig-zag route. You’ll encounter a four different pillboxes on the route, including the namesake pillbox that’s painted bright pink (interesting fact: it was painted pink to spread breast cancer awareness). You’ll get amazing 360 views of the the surrounding area, on a clear day stretching from Kaena Point to Mount Kaala to Kapolei, all with the Leeward coast’s beautiful stretch of sandy beaches in front of you. There’s not much shade on this trail, so bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and maybe a hat.
You can park along Kaukama Rd and find the trailhead after the 9th light pole.
