The Kuliouou Ridge trail is a moderately difficult ridge trail located in the Kuliouou neighborhood just west of Hawaii Kai. The trail zig zags up the side of the mountain to the top of the ridge which features breathtaking views of south and east shores of Oahu, Koko Crater, The Mokes, and even as far as the Windward towns of Waimanalo and Kailua. What really sets this trail apart is the diverse and distinct environments you’ll pass through on your way to the top, from the steeper mountainous sections to the laid-back sections through pine groves, you’ll get a taste of ecological diversity that’s so unique to Hawaii.
There’s another trailhead, the easier Kuliouou Valley Trail, near the ridge’s trailhead. Make sure you take a right at the fork between the 2 trails and continue along the dirt path, the beginning of the valley’s trail is paved.
